One of my projects for this year is to write a grant to get Mathematica for everyone in the high school. I believe that Mathematica is a very powerful tool for learning, exploring, publishing, and teaching mathematics. The goal of our grant is to provide this premier tool to all students and teacher, so they can use it not only as a tool for learning and exploring mathematics, but also to use it as a tool to create documents to publish their discoveries. Mathematica is being used by extensively by Fortune 500 companies and higher education institutions. Thus the main intend of this grant is to provide an edge for all students by having access to a powerful development environment.
It has always been my dream to be able to create dynamic documents, so I could share with my students. Currently, I share all my class notes as Portable Document Format (PDF ) in my class calendars, but the documents are static. Using Mathematica as a publishing tool and converting my documents into Computable Document Format (CDF), I would be able to create dynamic documents that my students can use to review and use my class notes.
At this time, I have a license of Mathematica 9 and I am learning the new features of the program. I would like to have my two student's collaborators for this grant to download a trial version of Mathematica, so we can learn more about Mathematica and what we could create by using this powerful development environment. It is my intention to acquire as much information and knowledge regarding Mathematica, so we can write our grant. On September 17, 2013, I am planning to attend a virtual conference on Mathematica.
